Notes and History

ME 160 as originally designated in 1925 ran between Saint Francis at private road and Madawaska at NEI 24 (now US 1). In 1926 with the advent of US highways in Maine, ME 160 was retracted to Fort Kent and the remainder of its routing became part of the new US 1. After the Maine Great Renumbering, this alignment ceased to be state highway (later added to ME 161, but see US 1) and the number was given to a new routing between Kezar Falls/Parsonsfield and ME 25 up through Brownfield to ME 117 in Denmark. The southern extension to Limerick, along ME 25 into Porter and south via North Parsonsfield to ME 5 in Limerick, was added in 1937-8.
