Notes and History |
ME 117 as originally designated in 1925 ran between Bridgton at NEI 18
(now US 302) and Norway at ME 118. After the Maine
Great Renumbering, ME 117 was extended along new routing
on both sides, the northeastern
terminus to Turner near the present-day ending, but
the southwestern only as far as Hiram. Between 1937-8, ME 117 was extended
further south along new routing
to ME 112 near Saco; the northeastern connection to ME 219 at
Howes Corners was added in 1951.
Portions of its routing through Hollis have been also reconfigured; see
US 202. There is an irregularity with its routing near Bridgton;
see US 302.

Junction of ME 26, ME 117 and the terminus of ME 119 in South Paris, in the 1940s. The junction is signed not only with conventional shields but also on the "GO RIGHT" traffic post, which correctly indicates ME 117 and ME 119 are cosigned in a useless multiplex.
