Notes and History
ME 159 as originally designated in 1925 ran between Patten at ME 158 (now ME 11) and Island Falls at NEI 15 (now US 2); although an early 1924 pre-signage map gives its routing as only through to Crystal, this is the routing appearing on the 1925 route log. Surviving the Maine Great Renumbering, it was further extended west in 1949 along Shin Pond Rd up through Mt Chase Plt to finally terminate north of Shin Pond at trail road, essentially a dead end in the middle of nowhere. This routing persists to the present day.
