- 24 January 2021: Four more parts of
the Summer of US 6 in Iowa, plus dusty little
CA 136 and the sad stories of the southern
Owens Valley!
- 11 July 2020: A large retrofit! Many of the old exhibits are
now upgraded to Grouperview, the grouped photo markup originally developed
for the Summer of 6, with better layouts on mobile devices, cleaned-up
link rot and rewritten blurbs. Plus new stuff! —
a completely new CA 266, the Loneliest Highway in
California shot with our new flying camera setup,
an expanded CA 209 with more and better pictures,
and a greatly expanded Route 110 in three parts with
historical photographs and comparison shots also with our new flying
camera!
- 24 March 2020: Custodial cleanup for some upcoming exhibits,
including improved layouts on mobile devices.
- 18 October 2019: Five more parts of
the Summer of US 6
in Nebraska, plus a sordid, hard-hitting look at the
Walt Disney World Freeway System!
- 12 March 2019: Finally dusting off the archives and getting
back on track with a lovely mountain drive, CA
371.
- 26 May 2016: Six more parts of
the Summer of US 6
in Colorado!
- 21 August 2014: Four more parts of
the Summer of US 6
and our new CA 153 exhibit, California's
shortest state highway except for those ones they don't sign!
- 9 July 2014: I've been photographing, and finally I've been
getting down to writing! Two more parts of
the Summer of US 6
covering the entirety of the Nevada routing, plus new exhibits for
CA 195 in southern Calfornia and the
two-part Road to Bodie: CA 270!
- 4 December 2009: While I get some more US 6 together for you,
here's eight parts of US Highway 399 in a
completely new exhibit; a beefed up annual update to
US Highway 395 with new and
revised sections in Olancha, CA,
Douglas county, NV, Carson City, NV (TEMP US 395),
Lassen county, CA and I-90 in
eastern Washington, plus totally new sections along old US 395 through
Connell, WA, Lind, WA and Springdale, WA;
and even more Roadgap Redux with improved photographs for both
CA 54 and Italian Highways. Plus
link cleanup and general custodial changes. Watch for more US 6 soon!
- 7 March 2009: Even more Roadgap Redux: improved photography,
updated writeups and new CA 118/CA 164 sections for the
Mass Grave grab-bag collection of little dead
routes; cleaned up photography and entries for
CA 274 in San Diego, and finally!
the first two Parts of the Summer of 6 with complete
photography of US 6 through California to Tonopah, Nevada! Outstanding!
- 19 January 2009: More Roadgap Redux -- new and revised photography
for our Australian Highways exhibit and our
Dead CA 252 (El Toyon Fwy) exhibit in San Diego,
and a totally revamped three-part
exhibit for The Crosstown
Freeway (Old CA 30, Old CA 18/BR 18, CA 18, CA 259) with totally new
photographs, more writeups and more maps and historical photos
as future Interstate 210 takes over San Bernardino! You'll love it!
Next: some more single-part exhibit updates and the release of the
first section of the full US 6 exhibit! Awesome!
- 8 September 2008: The next exhibit in the Roadgap Redux is
ready! I'm very proud to unveil the new expanded US 395
Three Flags Highway photoessay, featuring not only tons of new and
regenerated photography through California including old alignments in
Janesville and Doyle, the
new Reno and Carson City freeways in Nevada, the old OR 37 and US 730 routing
of US 395 in Oregon and Washington, and old US 10 and US 395 in eastern
Washington, but also lots of historical photographs and maps, media screen
grabs, an updated US 395 In Popular Culture section, and a new, completely
rewritten, 18-part Old Highway 395 section for San Diego, Riverside
and San Bernardino!
Next is the overhaul of the remaining small exhibits, including a completely
redone Crosstown Fwy!
- 5 March 2008: Posted a quick addendum on
the Crosstown Fwy exhibit. I'm still working
on the new pictures -- which is now important as the route is now almost
fully 210.
- 18 December 2007: The first exhibit in the big Roadgap Redux has
been released -- a new and expanded US 95 Vegas to
Blythe photoessay, with a greatly lengthened portion on the Interstate
and old routings plus a Hoover Dam detour! Now in six parts! Please note
that the base URL and components have changed ... update your bookmarks.
Next is a new US 395 exhibit!
- 6 July 2007: Temporary CA 30,
California's last temporary highway, has been
SAVED! Thank you to Cheryl Donahue at SANBAG and Joe Nelson at
the San Bernardino Sun!
- 4 April 2007: Custodial changes to some of the large exhibits
in preparation for a larger rehabilitation of several photoessays this
summer. Stay tuned!
- 27 January 2007: While working on a new "s3kr1t" project and
revamping most of the exhibits with new photography, I discovered that
Temporary CA 30 is now destroyed and the
sign in danger. Please help me preserve this
last Temporary route in the state of California.
- 2 June 2006: The Summer of 6 project goes up, including the first
photographs "from the road" and the itinerary in a "road blog" format.
Sign up now for the mailing list and RSS feed as we drive 3,205 miles across
America to Cape Cod on US 6! Photographs and notes from the road posted
regularly!
- 5 March 2006: The full, present-day 1,305 mile routing of US 395
is now online (California to Canada). Includes the original Old Highway 395
exhibit as a sidebar. Also added CA 65, US 99 and CA 163 (old) to the Mass
Grave, and cleaned up various links and custodial tasks.
- 19 September 2005: Added the US 95 and US 1/1A exhibits to
the grand tours section, along with archival maps and local scenery. Added
a few snapshots of CA 195 to the Mass Grave. Updates to the conventions page.
Revision of the 395 directory structure in anticipation of the full route
(the former Old 395 exhibit is moved to the 395/old/ subdirectory, with a
redirect in place, which is where it will be in the final full US 395
section).
Custodial link and typo corrections. Also created this "what's new" page
as a central repository.
- 28 May 2005: Open for business!
