Notes and History
Before there was Interstate 95, there was State Route 95, designated 1946-7 over the vacated alignment of ME 114 (except for the part which remained ME 35). As signed originally, it ran between ME 25 and Sebago Lake at ME 35 for a distance of almost 10 miles. With the designation of Interstate highways, it became an obvious duplicate and was renumbered to ME 237 in 1957.
There is still one more duplicate in the Maine numbering system; see I-195 and ME 195SH.
