Notes and History |
ME 224 as originally designated in 1931-2 ran on new routing between
Dexter at
ME 100 (now ME 7)
and Guilford at ME 105 (now ME 6/ME 15/ME 16).
After the Maine Great Renumbering, this routing
became part of new route ME 24 (and is today ME 23) and the number was
applied to a partially new routing between Springfield at the intersection of
ME 109, ME 11 and ME 11A, and co-routed with ME 4 (and later US 202)
into Alfred where it probably terminated at the corner of Saco and Oak where
ME 111 continued as the Saco-Biddeford Rd. This was an obvious unnecessary
multiplex but unlike many such routings was cut back to the intersection with
ME 4/US 202 in 1939-40 and the remaining routing remains today.
On the Maine GIS plot, ME 224 appears as state aid, not as state highway. |
