Notes and History

ME 221 as originally designated in 1931-2 ran on new routing between Bangor at ME 105 (now ME 15) and Brownville Junction, where it probably terminated at the junction of Main St and Van Horn Ave. Although the roadway was gradually extended north of Brownville Jct, it does not look like ME 221 was ever routed on it; instead it was cut down in 1955 to Charleston/Bradford when ME 11 was shifted west, and in turn ME 11 was given the old alignment through Brownville into Millinocket. This routing persists today.
