Notes and History |
ME 219 as originally designated in 1928-9 ran on new
routing between Rumford Point
at US 2 and South Arm at the shore of Lower Richardson Lake via Andover.
After the Maine Great Renumbering, this alignment
became part of new route ME 5 (later decommissioned north of Andover, see
ME 5) and the number was applied to new routing between Hartford at
ME 140 and Wayne at ME 133. Between 1937-8, the routing near Bear Pond
was shifted to the southern shore, possibly due to changes in lake level; the
old routing survives as Berry Rd, Berry Mahoney Rd and (approximately) Pratt
Hill Rd. Between 1940-1, ME 219 was extended over ME 140 between Hartford
and East Sumner, and then west along new routing through Sumner, Trap Corner
(at ME 26), West Paris, and a most curious terminus in Greenwood at
Greenwood Rd, strange in that Greenwood Rd does not ever seem to have been
numbered highway. This routing persists today.
