Notes and History

ME 211 as originally designated in 1925 ran between Medway at ME 157 (now ME 11/ME 157) and Sherman at ME 158 (now the junction of ME 11 and ME 158), part of former lettered highway K. Probably you've guessed the fate of that routing by now, but if you haven't, this routing also became part of new route ME 11 after the Maine Great Renumbering and the number was transferred to a new routing between Belgrade Lakes at ME 27 and Mount Vernon at ME 134 (now ME 41). That routing persisted until 1957, at which time it was decommissioned and the routing ceased to be state highway; it still exists today as Belgrade Rd and Castle Island Rd, crossing Long Pond as it did when it was signed as ME 211.
