Notes and History
ME 198 as originally designated in 1925 ran between the Mount Desert Bridge and Somesville/Mount Desert at ME 183 on both ends (now ME 3 and the junction of ME 3, ME 102 and ME 198, respectively), as a connecting piece of the Bar Harbor loop formerly run by ME 183. After the Maine Great Renumbering, the route was extended down new route ME 3 to Asticou and then to the junction of Harborside Rd, Main St and Summit Sts in what is Mount Desert today, alongside the Northeast Harbor. The routing has since remained essentially unchanged.
