Notes and History	ME 179 as originally designated in 1925 ran between Eddington at ME 178 and Ellsworth Falls at NEI 1 (later US 1, and now US 1A), via a "V" bend at Aurora. After the Maine Great Renumbering, its current useless multiplex with ME 180 at Ellsworth Falls was established (and still exists today; see ME 180) and its north end was cut down to Aurora, giving the vacated alignment between Eddington and Aurora to the reformulated ME 9. This routing remains today.
