Notes and History
ME 177 as originally designated in 1925 ran between South Penobscot at ME 175 and north of Blue Hill at ME 106 (now ME 15). Originally the connection was made using Tamworth Farm Rd directly to ME 106, yielding a total routing of approximately four miles which persisted after the Maine Great Renumbering. In 1940-1, the routing was shifted south down along Hinckley Ridge Rd, but then continuing along Beech Hill Rd and South Street to intersect ME 172/ME 175 (see the 1944 topo [warning: large image]). By 1957, it had been moved to its current alignment; see ME 175 for the history of this change. Its old alignments along Beech Hill Rd and Tamworth Farm Rd are no longer numbered highway.
