Notes and History

ME 162 as originally designated in 1925 ran between Frenchville at NEI 24 (now US 1) and Sinclair, coming to a dead end near the shore of Long Lake. In 1927, this was changed to a cutoff routing at St Agatha running along what is now Flat Mountain Rd through Carriveau Mill to Daigle Cross Rd, then Ouellette Rd to ME 161. This routing can be seen on the 1931 topo (warning: large image). In 1939, an extension along the west shore of Long Lake was completed, restoring the route to Sinclair and then reconnecting with ME 161 just northeast of Guerette, which remains its routing today; the former routing south from Saint Agatha through Carriveau Mill is no longer numbered highway.
