Notes and History
ME 139 as originally designated in 1925 ran between Unity at ME 138 (now ME 9/US 202) and Winterport at NEI 1 (later US 1, now US 1A). In 1931, ME 139 inherited ME 138's abandoned routing between Benton and Unity; after the Maine Great Renumbering, the route was further extended from Benton through Fairfield via ME 11 and ME 104, and finally ran up a new alignment to Norridgewock where it ends at US 2/US 201A. This remains its modern routing. Its terminus in Winterport was later signed in a useless multiplex with ME 69.
