Notes and History |
ME 112 as originally designated in 1925 ran between Saco at NEI 1
(now US 1) and Bar Mills at ME 111 (now ME 4A), surviving the Maine
Great Renumbering intact.
It appears that its southern terminus in Saco has always
been at the unique 'triangle intersection' with US 1, ME 5 and ME 9,
although it was not extended to its longtime northern terminus near Gorham
(using an odd right angle turn in West Buxton to intercept ME 25)
until 1937-8.
In 2008, ME 112 was extended past its old terminus on ME 25
on a new 3.4 mile bypass routing around the west side
of Gorham, partially co-routing it with ME 25 to the new bypass roundabout
west of Cressey Rd, and then down new alignment crossing ME 4/US 202
to intersect ME 114 south of Gorham. This is expected to alleviate
significant congestion on ME 25 and ME 114 through the town center, and
was opened on 8 December 2008 a full six months ahead of schedule. The
length and termini above do not reflect this new routing.
