Notes and History |
ME 110 as originally designated in 1925 ran between
Alfred at NEI 11 (now the junction of ME 4, ME 4A, ME 4/US 202
and ME 111, although see ME 111 for where the terminus was originally)
and near Limington at NEI 25 (now ME 25)
approximately via West Buxton. After the designation of ME 205, its
routing through Waterboro was shared between the routes until
their split in Waterboro Center, where ME 110 proceeded up a now
obliterated routing partially approximated by Chadbourne Ridge Rd
at ME 5 north to ME 117 near Dole's Ridge Rd (no longer numbered
highway) and then ME 117 to ME 25. The alignment along Old Alfred Road
near Waterboro does not appear to have ever been part of the routing going
back as far as 1925.
In 1931, the portion between Alfred and East Waterboro became part of
new route ME 4 (and later US 202) and the western tail was shifted to
new routing between Limerick and the New Hampshire stateline near West
Newfield, leaving ME 205 full control of the shared routing between Limerick
and the new route ME 4. After the Maine Great Renumbering, its routing
was further truncated to West Newfield, with the remainder to Limington/ME 25
becoming part of the extended ME 11 (and its old portion as ME 205 to
Waterboro Center was added to new route ME 5 as part of its
absorption of ME 205). This truncated short routing remains today.
ME 110 is a multi-state route with New Hampshire; see also
ME 4, ME 9, ME 11, ME 16, ME 25, ME 26 and ME 109.
