Notes and History |
ME 107 as originally designated in 1925 ran between Auburn at ME 100
and Haines Landing/Oquossoc, via Turner, Jay,
Fairbanks (partially using NEI 15 [US 2]), Madrid and Rangeley, where it
terminated at the edge of Mooselookmeguntic Lake. This routing corresponded to
former lettered highway F in its entirety.
In 1931, almost all of the
routing was taken into new route ME 4 except for the segment west of
Rangeley; after the Maine Great Renumbering, even this section was lost
(into new route ME 16) and the number lapsed
until 1936 when it was applied to its current routing. It seems, however,
that the southern terminus was slightly shorter and terminated at where it
meets ME 11 today north of Bridgton (at the corner of Sebago Rd/ME 11
and Bridgton Rd/ME 107); the extension south
to ME 113 (another thoroughly useless
multiplex) did not occur until 1953. The northern terminus at ME 117, just
shy of US 302, appears to have remained constant.
