28 June 2006: Pre-Flight CheckJust an interlude post until the trip starts on Saturday. Thanks for all the wonderful comments and travel suggestions you guys have sent in, they've been great! I will try to incorporate them into the trip wherever possible, although depending on how many miles I have in the hopper for that day I might not be able to work some of them in. Perhaps some other time?
To ensure that this entry isn't entirely just a spammy placeholder, here is some of the research I've done/been doing to make sure that I make the most of the sadly limited number of days I'll have afield. Even the full photoessay won't be anywhere near exhaustive (not even to the partially exhaustive level of the US 395 essay), but within the limits of budget and travel time, I do want to make sure that the major alignments are either traveled or at least acknowledged. To those wondering about the Long Beach-Bishop leg in California (i.e., Old US 6), that will be a separate photoessay part of a larger US 6 exhibit like the Old Highway 395 one from San Diego to Hesperia.
Anyway, some more food for (roadgeeky) thought, in addition to the Tour link above:
