22 June 2006: Esmeralda County, NV (Through US 95)

With this entry, we reach the end of the "canned" photography. The next set of photographs will be "live," as it were, after I leave on the 1st. (Yes, just a reminder, I haven't left yet! By the way, I'm keeping the RoadMate. No problems at all, doing great.)

People have also asked how to leave comments. I was too lazy to write a comments facility into the content manager (and I hate the cancer of blogspam), so just E-mail me: ckaiser@floodgap.com

Off we go.

Junction NV 264. This connects through Dyer, NV and the Fish Lake Valley down towards Oasis and CA 266, one of the most isolated highways I think I have ever traveled in the entire state. There is no gas for miles until you reach US 95 and go for either Beatty or Goldfield, so cars with small tanks or in dire straits are better off trying their luck further on ahead.

Coming out of the Excelsior Mountains into the central Nevada valleys.

A nice view of US 6 stretching out into the distance.

The majestic snow peaks have now given way to arid scrub and mountains tinted with oxide.

Coaldale Junction and US 95 (N towards "Reno" [actually via ALT US 95 and Interstate 80], S towards Tonopah and Las Vegas). That's all there is to it, no habitations, no nothing. When we return, we'll be turning right to continue US 6 into Tonopah. As a point of reference, we are about 80 miles out of Bishop, CA by now.

Next Wednesday: Pre-flight check and comments!
